Kenmore is now owned by Transformco, which is parent company of Sears and Kmart, having acquired Sears assets including Kenmore brand after Sears Holdings bankruptcy in 2019. Kenmore was founded in 1913 by Sears, Roebuck and Co. as private label brand for sewing machines and later appliances, owned by Sears for over 100 years, becoming one of most recognized appliance brands in US and Canada. After Sears Holdings filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2018 and closed most of its 700 stores, Eddie Lampert, former Sears CEO, formed Transformco and purchased Sears and Kmart assets including Kenmore brand, DieHard, and other brands in February 2019 for 5.2 billion dollars through bankruptcy auction. Transformco now owns Kenmore trademark and continues to sell Kenmore appliances through Sears online at sears.com and remaining Sears stores in US, with manufacturing contracted to Whirlpool, LG, and Frigidaire who build appliances in Ohio, Mexico, and Korea. In Canada, Sears Canada closed in 2018, so Kenmore no longer sold new in Canada, but brand ownership remains with Transformco US. So Kenmore is owned by Transformco, parent of Sears, not by Whirlpool or other manufacturer, though manufacturing is outsourced, with brand still existing for US market.
