Oil was 30 dollars a barrel many times in history, most recently and notably during several periods. Oil was around 30 dollars per barrel in early 2000s, from 2000 to 2003, WTI traded around 20 to 35 dollars. It fell to around 30 dollars in early 2009 during financial crisis after crashing from 147 dollars in 2008, dropping to low 30s in December 2008 to January 2009. It was again around 30 dollars in early 2016 when oil crashed due to shale oversupply, WTI hit 26 dollars in February 2016. Most dramatically, oil was around 30 dollars and even negative in 2020 during COVID pandemic, WTI fell to around 15 to 30 dollars in March and April 2020, briefly negative 37 dollars on April 20 2020 due to storage crisis, then recovered. Historically, oil was around 30 dollars in 1990s average, and in 1980s after adjusting for inflation. So oil was 30 dollars a barrel in early 2000s, 2009, 2016, and 2020, with most recent low around 30 dollars being 2020 pandemic crash and 2016 oversupply, and before that 2009 financial crisis.
