As of 2025 to 2026, USA is not having an oil crisis in sense of 1970s oil embargo with long lines and rationing, US oil production is at record highs about 12 to 13 million barrels per day, and gasoline supply is generally adequate. However, there are challenges that feel like mini crisis to consumers, such as gasoline prices fluctuating 3 to 4 dollars per gallon, higher in some states, due to OPEC cuts, refinery outages, and geopolitics, plus diesel inventories sometimes low in Northeast. US strategic petroleum reserve is at lower levels than past after releases in 2022, raising concerns about buffer. Refinery capacity has declined slightly as some refineries closed, making system tighter and more vulnerable to hurricanes and outages. Inflation from energy costs also affects economy. So while not a classic oil crisis with physical shortage and rationing, US faces energy security concerns, price volatility, and dependence on imports of heavy crude from Canada. Compared to 1973 and 1979 crises, current situation is much better due to domestic shale production and diversification. So no, USA is not having full oil crisis now, but faces price volatility and tight refining, not outright shortage.
