What is the 24/38 rule in golf is informal guideline for junior golf development and for adult beginners about how far you should hit ball to be ready for next level, not official rule of golf. In junior golf, 24/38 rule means if junior golfer can shoot 38 or better for 9 holes from 2,400 yards for girls or 3,800 yards for boys, they are ready to move back to longer tees. Another version for adults is that you should be able to break 100 from 2,400 yards, 90 from 3,800 yards, etc. There is also 24/38 rule for golf fitness, where you should be able to do 24 push-ups and hold plank 38 seconds for core strength for golf. However, official Rules of Golf by R&A and USGA do not have 24/38 rule, it is coaching guideline. Some interpret 24/38 as you should spend 24 hours practicing putting and 38 hours practicing driving, but that is not standard. Most common use is junior development pathway used by US Kids Golf and Golf Australia, where yardage for junior tees is set so junior can reach par 4 in regulation, with 24/38 being benchmark score to advance. For example, if 10-year-old shoots 38 or better from 2,400 yards 9 holes, they move to 3,000 yards. So 24/38 rule is development benchmark, not penalty rule, helping juniors progress at appropriate pace and keep game enjoyable.
