A service drop is officially defined as the overhead electrical conductors and triplex cables that span from the electric utility company's distribution pole directly to a building's exterior attachment point and weatherhead. It represents the physical delivery link connecting the utility's high-voltage distribution grid to the customer's property. The utility company maintains full legal ownership and maintenance responsibility for this overhead span. Once the service drop wires connect to the customer's weatherhead and service mast, the electrical system transitions into customer-owned service entrance equipment.
