A service drop is defined as the overhead electrical conductors and triplex cables that run from the electric utility company's distribution pole directly to a residential or commercial building's exterior weatherhead and service mast. This overhead span serves as the primary physical link delivering high-voltage utility power from the electrical grid straight to the customer's property. It typically consists of two insulated hot phase conductors twisted around a bare neutral support messenger wire, which provides structural tensile strength against wind and ice loads. While the utility company owns and maintains this overhead span, it transitions power directly into the customer-owned service entrance equipment feeding the main electrical panel.
