Ownership of the power lines running from the utility pole to the house is divided between the electric utility company and the homeowner based on a specific point of attachment. The electric utility company owns and maintains the overhead service drop wires spanning from the utility pole up to the point where they connect to the house. However, once the wires reach the customer's property attachment hardware, the weatherhead, the exterior conduit mast, the meter socket enclosure, and all internal wiring belong entirely to the homeowner. If a storm damages the utility's overhead drop, the power company fixes it; if the roof mast is damaged, the homeowner is financially responsible.
