Low-E stands for low-emissivity. In window manufacturing, it refers to a microscopic, transparent metallic or metal-oxide coating applied to glass surfaces. This specialized coating is engineered to reflect thermal infrared energy (radiant heat) back toward its source—keeping interior heat inside during winter and reflecting unwanted solar heat outward during hot summer months.
