Traditional Hmong spiritual belief systems are deeply rooted in animism, shamanism, and ancestral worship. Practitioners believe that the physical world is inhabited by numerous spirits (dab) that influence health, fortune, and weather, and that human beings possess multiple souls which can occasionally wander or become distressed, requiring healing rituals performed by traditional shamans (* neeb*). Over generations, many Hmong individuals have also integrated Christianity or Buddhism into their cultural frameworks.
