Traditional Hmong spiritual belief systems are characterized by animism, shamanism, and ancestral worship rather than a single conventional monotheistic concept of God. Practitioners believe the universe is populated by numerous spirits (dab) governing nature, health, and destiny, with ancestral spirits watching over descendants. Over generations, many Hmong individuals have also integrated Christianity or Buddhism into their personal faiths.
