To turn on a Whirlpool oven, whether you have a gas range, electric range, wall oven, or slide-in model, follow these basic steps. First, ensure oven is ready: make sure oven is empty except for rack you need, remove any foil or packaging, ensure door is fully closed and latched, and for gas models ensure gas supply valve behind oven is open. Second, select cooking mode: press Bake button for standard baking, or Broil for broiling, or Convect Bake if you have convection model like WFE525S0JS. On dial models, turn oven knob to Bake. Third, set temperature: use number pad or arrow keys to enter desired temperature, for example 350 degrees for most baking, or use dial to set temperature, then press Start or OK button. On some models, you press Bake, then use arrows to adjust temperature, then Start. Fourth, wait for preheat: display will show PrE or preheating and beep when oven reaches set temperature, which takes 8 to 15 minutes depending on temperature and model, do not open door during preheat. Fifth, place food in oven using oven mitts on middle rack. Sixth, monitor cooking and use timer by pressing Timer Set. After cooking, press Cancel or Off to turn off oven, remove food with mitts, and allow oven to cool. If oven does not turn on, check if control lock is on, press and hold Control Lock for 3 seconds.
