You know your oven element is blown when oven does not heat, heats unevenly, or you see visible damage on element. The bake element is the large black or silver coil at bottom of electric oven, and broil element is at top. Signs of blown bake element include oven not heating at all when set to Bake but broil works, or oven taking much longer to preheat, or food baking unevenly with one side raw. Visual inspection: unplug oven or turn off breaker, open door, look at bake element, a blown element often has visible break, crack, blister, bubbling, or burned spot where coil separated, sometimes you see white ash. For hidden bake element under bottom panel, you need to remove bottom panel to inspect. Multimeter continuity test: turn off power, remove element by unscrewing bracket at back wall and pulling forward to expose wires, disconnect wires, set multimeter to continuity or ohms, place probes on element terminals, if multimeter shows no continuity or infinite resistance, element is blown and needs replacement at 30 to 60 dollars. Also check for F1E0 or F3E0 error codes indicating element failure. If element glows red in some spots but not others, it is failing. Always replace with same wattage and shape. A blown element is most common oven failure after 5 to 10 years and is easy DIY repair with screwdriver.
