Drawing bed bugs out of hiding relies on exploiting their attraction to warmth, carbon dioxide, and host presence, though they are adept at staying hidden in mattress seams, box spring cracks, headboard crevices, behind baseboards, and furniture joints during day and coming out at night to feed. Methods to draw them out include using heat and CO2 traps such as dry ice traps that release carbon dioxide mimicking human breathing, or commercial bed bug interceptor traps placed under bed legs that catch bugs as they climb. You can make your bed an island by pulling bed away from walls, encasing mattress and box spring in bed bug proof encasements, and placing interceptor traps under legs, then sleeping in bed, your body heat and CO2 will attract hungry bugs out of hiding and they will be caught in interceptors, providing evidence. Another method is to use a hair dryer on low heat to gently warm suspected hiding spots like mattress seams and cracks, as heat can cause them to move. Vacuuming with crevice tool can draw them out physically. Steam treatment above 200 degrees Fahrenheit applied to cracks forces them out and kills on contact. However, simply waiting at night with flashlight inspection between 2 AM and 5 AM when they are most active is often most effective. Note that no repellent draws them out to kill instantly, and thorough inspection and professional heat treatment are needed for complete removal rather than just drawing them out.
