Bed bugs do not stay on your body after a shower, because unlike lice or scabies mites that live on humans, bed bugs are environmental pests that hide in mattress seams, box springs, headboards, and nearby cracks and only come to feed on exposed skin for 5 to 10 minutes at night then return to hiding. They do not live on your body, hair, or clothing like lice, so showering will wash away any bed bugs that might be crawling on you, though it is rare to have them on you during day. If you feel itchy after shower, it is likely from bites that occurred overnight rather than bugs still on you. However, bed bugs can hide in clothing, especially seams and pockets, and can be transported on clothes to other locations, so washing and drying clothes on high heat for 30 minutes kills all stages including eggs. Taking a shower alone does not prevent bed bug bites, because they will come out again the next night to feed if infestation remains in bed. To ensure no bugs are on you after finding infestation, shower, change into clean clothes that have been heat dried and stored in sealed bags, and avoid sitting on infested furniture. The key is treating environment with professional heat treatment, encasements, and vacuuming, not just showering, as bed bugs live in bed, not on body.
