You can use WD-40 in your toilet bowl for certain cleaning tasks, but it is not recommended as a regular cleaner and has limitations. WD-40 is a solvent and water displacer that is excellent at softening hard water stains, rust rings, limescale, and mineral buildup in the toilet bowl because it breaks down the deposits that regular cleaners struggle with. Many people spray it around the bowl, let it sit for a few minutes, scrub with a toilet brush, and flush to remove stubborn rings. It can also lubricate the toilet handle and hinges if they are squeaky. However, WD-40 is not a disinfectant and does not kill germs, bacteria, or viruses, so it will not sanitize your toilet like bleach or toilet bowl cleaners containing disinfectants. It is also petroleum-based and not environmentally ideal to flush large amounts into septic systems regularly, as it can disrupt septic bacteria. For occasional deep cleaning of stains, it is effective, but you should follow with a proper toilet cleaner and ensure good ventilation. Do not use it on plastic parts excessively as it can degrade some rubbers over time.
