A water softener brine tank should never be completely full of water; it should only contain about 6 to 12 inches of standing water at the bottom. If your brine tank appears unusually dry with little to no water visible at the base, it is usually caused by a closed water supply valve, a clogged injector nozzle, a stuck fill float valve, or low household water pressure preventing the system from refilling properly during the brine draw phase of the regeneration cycle. Without adequate water in the tank, salt cannot dissolve into brine. Verification: Check the brine well tube and verify that incoming water supply lines are fully open.
