Firestone is now owned by Bridgestone Corporation, which is Japanese multinational tire and rubber company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, one of largest tire manufacturers in world. Firestone Tire and Rubber Company was founded in 1900 in Akron, Ohio by Harvey Firestone, and was independent American company for most of 20th century, known for tires and auto care. In 1988, Bridgestone acquired Firestone for 2.6 billion dollars, after Firestone had financial difficulties and recall issues, creating Bridgestone Americas as subsidiary. Since 1988, Firestone has been owned by Bridgestone, operating as Firestone brand within Bridgestone Americas, with headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee for Americas operations. Bridgestone kept Firestone brand name for tires, Firestone Complete Auto Care auto repair chain with over 2,200 stores in US, and Firestone Building Products roofing materials division, though building products was later sold to LafargeHolcim in 2021 for 3.4 billion. So Firestone brand is owned by Japanese company Bridgestone, but operates as American subsidiary. Harvey Firestone family no longer owns it. Bridgestone is world's second largest tire maker after Michelin, and Firestone is its American brand alongside Bridgestone brand tires. So who owns Firestone now is Bridgestone Corporation of Japan since 1988 acquisition.
