Trane has been bought out multiple times, with the most recent owner being Trane Technologies which is the current parent company. Originally founded in 1913 by James Trane in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Trane was acquired by American Standard Companies in 1984 for about 400 million dollars, which combined Trane with American Standard Heating and Air Conditioning and made them sister brands sharing technology. In 2008, Ingersoll Rand, a large industrial conglomerate, acquired Trane for about 10.1 billion dollars, which was a major acquisition that made Ingersoll Rand a leader in climate control. Then in 2020, Ingersoll Rand completed a transformation where it spun off its industrial business to merge with Gardner Denver, and the remaining climate business focused on HVAC and transport refrigeration was renamed Trane Technologies, which is now an independent publicly traded company headquartered in Swords, Ireland, with US operations in Davidson, North Carolina. So who bought Trane most recently is Ingersoll Rand in 2008, and then that business became Trane Technologies in 2020 through a spin-off and renaming, so Trane Technologies is the current owner, with Trane itself as its flagship premium brand alongside Thermo King, Ameristar, Oxbox, and RunTru.
