Trane has been bought out several times in its over 110 year history. Trane was originally founded in 1913 by James Trane in La Crosse, Wisconsin, as The Trane Company. In 1984, Trane was acquired by American Standard Companies, which combined Trane with American Standard Heating and Air Conditioning, and for many years Trane and American Standard shared technology while operating as separate brands. In 2008, American Standard was broken up and Ingersoll Rand, a large industrial company, acquired Trane for about 10.1 billion dollars, making Trane part of Ingersoll Rand's climate control business. In 2020, Ingersoll Rand completed a spin-off and merger transaction where its industrial business merged with Gardner Denver, and the remaining climate company focused on HVAC and transport refrigeration was renamed Trane Technologies, which is now the parent company of Trane and Thermo King, headquartered in Swords, Ireland, with US operations in Davidson, North Carolina. So the most recent and current owner of Trane is Trane Technologies, which is an independent publicly traded company that was formerly the climate segment of Ingersoll Rand, and Trane has been owned by American Standard and Ingersoll Rand in the past before becoming Trane Technologies.
