Trane is not currently American owned in terms of its legal parent company headquarters, though it has deep American roots and major American operations. Trane was originally founded in 1913 by James Trane in La Crosse, Wisconsin, as The Trane Company, and was American owned for many decades, first as an independent American company, then as part of American Standard Companies which was American, and then as part of Ingersoll Rand which was American. In 2020, when Ingersoll Rand spun off its climate business, that business was renamed Trane Technologies and is legally headquartered in Swords, Ireland, near Dublin, for corporate and tax purposes, and is incorporated in Ireland, making it legally an Irish company, though it is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange and has its operational Americas headquarters in Davidson, North Carolina, near Charlotte. Trane Technologies employs about 40,000 people worldwide with major manufacturing and engineering still in the United States in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and other US plants making Trane furnaces and air conditioners. So while Trane has American heritage, major US operations, and US stock listing, its current legal parent company Trane Technologies is headquartered in Ireland, so it is not solely American owned but is a global company with Irish legal domicile and American operational headquarters.
