The provinces close to Western Cape in South Africa are Eastern Cape and Northern Cape, which directly border Western Cape, and nearby is also Free State though not directly bordering. Western Cape is located in the southwestern corner of South Africa, with Cape Town as its capital. To the east, Western Cape shares a border with Eastern Cape province, which includes cities like Gqeberha, formerly Port Elizabeth, East London, and Mthatha, and the border is near Plettenberg Bay and the Bloukrans Bridge along the Garden Route. To the north, Western Cape shares a long border with Northern Cape province, which is the largest province in South Africa, with towns like Springbok and Upington, and the border runs through the arid Karoo desert. The closest province to Western Cape is Eastern Cape to the east, about 300 kilometers from Cape Town to the Eastern Cape border via N2, and Northern Cape to the north, about 200 kilometers from Cape Town. Free State is further north but not directly bordering Western Cape, separated by Northern Cape. So Western Cape is close to Eastern Cape and Northern Cape, which are its only two neighboring provinces, with Eastern Cape being the most culturally and economically connected due to the Garden Route.
