As of 2023 to 2025, the biggest paint company in the world by revenue is Sherwin-Williams. After its 11.3 billion dollar acquisition of Valspar in 2017, Sherwin-Williams surpassed long-time leaders PPG Industries and AkzoNobel. Sherwin-Williams reported annual sales of over 23 billion dollars in 2023, with more than 5,000 company-owned stores in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, plus sales through Lowe's, Home Depot's competitors, and independent dealers worldwide. PPG Industries, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, founded in 1883, is the second largest with about 18 billion dollars in revenue, strong in architectural, aerospace, automotive, and industrial coatings, owning brands like Glidden, Olympic, and Dulux in some regions. AkzoNobel, headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands, owner of Dulux, Sikkens, and International, is third largest with around 11 to 12 billion euros in sales, dominant in Europe. Other major global players include Nippon Paint from Japan, RPM International which owns Rust-Oleum and DAP, and Asian Paints from India. Rankings can shift slightly depending on whether you measure revenue, volume, or market cap, but by revenue and number of stores, Sherwin-Williams is currently considered the world's largest paint and coatings manufacturer.
