The filter for your Whirlpool dishwasher is located at the bottom of the dishwasher tub under the lower spray arm. To find it on models like WDT730HAMZ, WDT750SAKZ, WDT920SAPZ, WDTA50SAKZ, and WDT505SAKZ, follow these steps: first, open dishwasher door fully and pull out lower dish rack completely by sliding it out on rails and lifting slightly to remove. Second, look at bottom center of tub, you will see lower spray arm that spins, and directly underneath or around it is a cylindrical filter assembly consisting of an upper coarse filter that catches large food particles and a lower fine filter with mesh that traps small particles. Third, to remove filter, twist the cylindrical filter assembly counterclockwise about a quarter turn until it unlocks, then lift straight up, you will have two parts: upper filter and lower filter. Some models also have a small microfilter underneath. Fourth, to clean, rinse both filters under running water, scrub with soft brush to remove trapped food, check sump area underneath for food debris and remove, then reinstall by placing lower filter back, placing upper filter on top, and twisting clockwise until locked. This filter should be cleaned every 30 days if you do not rinse dishes well, or every 60 days if you scrape well, to prevent odor, poor cleaning, and drain clogs.
