Craftsman stopped making most tools in the USA gradually from 2004 to 2010, with final shift overseas around 2010 to 2017, though some Craftsman tools are still made in USA with global materials under Stanley Black & Decker. Craftsman was famous for Made in USA hand tools from 1927 until early 2000s, with factories in USA producing wrenches, sockets, and screwdrivers. Starting in 2004, Sears began outsourcing some Craftsman tools to China to cut costs, and by 2010, majority of Craftsman hand tools were made overseas in China and Taiwan, though some power tools were still assembled in USA. In 2017, when Stanley Black & Decker bought Craftsman, it announced return of some manufacturing to USA, opening plant in Fort Worth, Texas in 2019 to make Craftsman mechanics tools with US steel and global materials, but large portion still made overseas. So Craftsman did not stop making tools in USA completely at single date, but transition happened 2004 to 2010 when most production moved overseas, ending long tradition of fully USA-made tools. Vintage Craftsman tools marked Made in USA before 2004 are considered higher quality and collectible. Today, some Craftsman tools are made in USA with global materials at Texas plant, but majority are still made overseas, so brand has partial USA manufacturing returning but not fully as before.
