Ramucirumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody classified as an anti-angiogenic targeted cancer therapy. Marketed under the brand name Cyramza, it is engineered to bind specifically to the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) located on the surface of endothelial cells. By blocking this receptor and preventing binding by VEGF ligands, ramucirumab inhibits the formation of new blood vessels that tumors require to grow and metastasize, effectively starving cancerous tissues in advanced gastric, colorectal, lung, and liver cancers.
