When the door keypad, whether garage door keypad or entry door keypad, is not working and won't open door with code, you can troubleshoot battery, code, and damage issues to restore access. For garage door keypad outside garage, first replace battery, as dead battery most common cause, with 9-volt, AAA, or coin cell costing 3 to 10 dollars, ensuring correct polarity. Try entering existing PIN and pressing Enter, as PIN may still be programmed. If not working, reprogram keypad by pressing Learn button on garage door opener motor unit hanging from ceiling briefly, then within 30 seconds enter PIN on keypad and press Enter until opener light blinks. Check if wall console lock mode engaged that disables keypads, holding lock button 5 seconds to unlock. For entry door keypad on front door that is electronic deadbolt, replace batteries inside interior assembly, typically AA batteries, and ensure correct code entered, as code may have been changed or lost after battery change, requiring reprogramming per manual. Inspect keypad for water damage, worn buttons, or physical damage that prevents contact, replacing keypad if damaged costing 30 to 100 dollars. Ensure no interference and that you are within range. If keypad is old, consider replacing with new model with better weather sealing. After fixing, test several times and keep spare batteries to avoid lockout. If you are locked out, use alternative entry or call locksmith.
