To reset your garage door keypad that mounts outside garage and allows PIN entry, you need to erase old PIN and program new PIN using Learn button on opener motor unit, which resets keypad memory. For most LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Craftsman keypads like 877MAX, to reset PIN, press and hold Learn button on garage door opener motor unit hanging from ceiling for 6 seconds until LED goes out if you want to erase all keypads and remotes, or to just reset keypad PIN without erasing remotes, enter existing PIN and press and hold Enter until opener light blinks, then enter new 4-digit PIN and press Enter to set new PIN. More common method: press and release Learn button on opener briefly, LED lights steady for 30 seconds, then within 30 seconds go to keypad outside and enter new 4-digit PIN you want to use and press Enter, holding until opener light blinks or door moves, indicating keypad reset and new PIN learned, which overwrites old PIN. For Genie keypads, press Program button on keypad, enter new PIN, and press Program again to reset. If you forgot old PIN, you can still reset without old code by pressing Learn on opener and entering new PIN, as old code will be replaced or you can erase all by holding Learn 6 seconds. After reset, test keypad by entering new PIN and pressing Enter to open and close door several times to ensure reset successful. If keypad still fails, replace battery and try again, as dead battery prevents reset.
