The TV show Containment is a 2016 American drama series on The CW, based on the Belgian series Cordon, about a deadly viral outbreak in Atlanta, Georgia, and the extreme measures taken to contain it. The story begins when a mysterious and highly contagious virus appears in a hospital, causing rapid, fatal symptoms, and the government, led by the CDC, decides to impose a cordon sanitaire, sealing off a large section of the city with shipping containers, fences, and armed guards, trapping thousands of people inside while leaving others outside. The show follows multiple groups, including police officer Lex Carnahan played by David Gyasi who is trapped inside trying to maintain order, his girlfriend Jana who is outside the cordon, teacher and mother Katie Frank who is stuck inside a school with her students, and doctors inside and outside trying to find a cure and understand the virus. It explores themes of fear, misinformation, government overreach, sacrifice, love, and how people behave under extreme isolation and panic, with much of the drama focusing on personal relationships strained by the barrier. The series has 13 episodes and was intended as a limited event series, telling a complete story about the outbreak, its origin, and the human cost of containment, and it became especially relevant to viewers after the COVID-19 pandemic because of its realistic depiction of quarantine life.
