In simple words, containment means keeping something dangerous or unwanted inside a boundary so it cannot spread and hurt other things. Think of it like putting a lid on a pot to keep steam inside, or building a fence around a garden to keep animals out, or using a box to keep toys from scattering everywhere. The idea is to create a barrier that holds something in one place. In history, containment was the US plan during the Cold War to keep communism from spreading to more countries, like building an invisible fence around it so it could not grow bigger. In health, containment means stopping a sickness from spreading by keeping sick people away from healthy people, like quarantining a house when someone has a contagious virus, so the germs stay contained. In a nuclear power plant, containment is a thick concrete dome that keeps radiation inside if something goes wrong. In everyday life, if you contain your anger, you keep it inside and do not let it explode out. So containment is basically about control and protection, you recognize something could be harmful if it spreads, so you use walls, rules, or barriers to keep it boxed in, safe, and manageable, rather than letting it run wild and cause bigger problems elsewhere.
