There was only one season of Containment. The 2016 CW television series Containment was produced as a limited event series consisting of 13 episodes that aired from April 19, 2016, to July 19, 2016. It was based on the Belgian series Cordon and was designed to tell a complete, self-contained story about a deadly virus outbreak in Atlanta and the government cordon that seals off part of the city. The network had marketed it as a limited series, meaning it was intended to have a definitive ending rather than continue for multiple seasons. While The CW left open the possibility of a second season if ratings were exceptionally strong, viewership declined from 1.7 million for the premiere to under 800,000 for the finale, and it received mixed reviews with a 53 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, leading to its cancellation in May 2016. The finale was written to work as a series finale, providing closure on the virus source, the fate of the cordon, and most character arcs. There is also the 2015 British film Containment which is a standalone movie with no seasons. No revival, reboot, or second season has been announced since, even though the show gained renewed interest during the COVID-19 pandemic due to its relevant themes.
