The best way to attach quarter round trim is by using a pneumatic brad nail gun loaded with one-and-a-half to two-inch brad nails, shooting them horizontally directly into the vertical face of the baseboard rather than down into the floor. Nailing into the baseboard ensures the trim floats slightly above the flooring, allowing the house and floors to expand and contract naturally without buckling the molding. For an extra secure hold, you can apply a thin bead of wood glue to the back of the molding before nailing, and fill any nail holes with matching wood putty.
