Quarter round should ideally be nailed rather than glued because nailing provides a secure, mechanical hold while allowing the trim to remain easily removable if the flooring or baseboards ever need replacement. Nails should always be driven horizontally through the face of the quarter round into the vertical baseboard or wall studs, ensuring that no nails are driven downward into the flooring below. Gluing quarter round is generally discouraged because construction adhesive creates a permanent, messy bond that damages drywall and baseboards upon removal, and gluing it to the floor prevents floating floors from expanding naturally. If adhesive must be used due to masonry walls or lack of backing, it should be applied strictly to the wall side only.
