Category 3 three-point hitch is good for large agricultural and heavy-duty work requiring high horsepower and high lift capacity. It is designed for tractors in the roughly 90 to 225 horsepower range and for implements that are large, heavy, and need strong draft capability. Good uses include pulling and lifting heavy implements such as large disc harrows, heavy moldboard plows, large rotary tillers, heavy box blades, large brush hogs, big planters and seeders, and heavy ballast or counterweights. Category 3's larger pins at 1 7/16 inch lower and 1 1/4 inch top link and wider spacing provide strength to handle draft loads and implement weights that can exceed 5,000 to over 10,000 pounds depending on tractor. It is common on row-crop tractors, large utility tractors, and some industrial tractors used in farming, land clearing, and heavy land management. It is not suitable for small compact tractors because implements are too large and heavy, but for commercial farming and heavy land work it provides durability and safety margin.
