You can tell if your tractor is Cat 1 or Cat 2 by measuring hitch pin sizes, spacing, and checking horsepower and lift capacity, as categories are standardized. Category 1 tractors typically have 20 to 45 horsepower, lower link pins 7/8 inch diameter, top link pin 3/4 inch diameter, spacing between lower link arms about 26 inches, and lift capacity up to 2000 pounds. Category 2 tractors have 40 to 100 horsepower, lower pins 1-1/8 inch diameter, top pin 1 inch diameter, spacing about 32 inches, lift capacity 3000 to 5000 pounds. To check, measure lower link holes with calipers, if they are about 7/8 inch, likely Cat 1, if 1-1/8 inch, likely Cat 2. Check tractor model specifications in manual or online, most compact utility tractors like John Deere 1025R, 2025R, Kubota BX and L series are Cat 1, while larger utility tractors like John Deere 5055E, 5075E, Kubota M series are Cat 2. Look at physical size of hitch arms, Cat 2 arms are noticeably thicker and heavier. Some tractors have convertible Cat 1/Cat 2 hitch with two holes in lower arms, allowing both sizes with bushings. If unsure, take photo of hitch with measurements to dealer. Using wrong category implement can be unsafe, so matching is important for stability and hydraulic limits.
