An example of drying is hanging wet laundry on a clothesline outdoors on a sunny day, where heat from the sun and wind evaporates water from the fabric until clothes become dry and ready to wear. Other common examples include using a tumble dryer to dry clothes after washing, where hot air circulates through the drum and removes moisture that is vented or condensed. In the kitchen, drying includes air drying dishes after washing or using a towel to dry them, as well as drying herbs by hanging them or using a low-temperature oven to preserve them. In food preservation, drying slices of fruit in a dehydrator to make dried fruit is an example. In construction, allowing concrete to cure and dry before building on it is another example. In personal care, towel drying hair after a shower is everyday drying. All examples share the same principle of removing liquid, usually water, from a material through evaporation, absorption, or mechanical means until the material reaches a desired low moisture level.
