There have been limited official recalls on LG dryers, but there have been important service advisories and voluntary repair programs. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has not issued a massive mandatory recall for all LG dryers, but LG did issue a voluntary recall in collaboration with the CPSC for certain LG electric dryers manufactured between 2009 and 2013, specifically some DLE and DLEX series models, due to a potential fire hazard where the internal heating element could fail to shut off properly if the control board relay stuck, causing overheating and in rare cases smoke or fire. Affected consumers were offered a free repair that included replacing the control board and installing a new thermal safety kit. In addition, there was a smaller recall for certain LG gas dryers from 2012 to 2015 related to a gas valve issue that could cause a gas leak if not properly tightened. Beyond those, LG has issued technical bulletins for dryer duct blockage sensors and lint filter housing cleaning. Most LG dryers sold after 2016 are not under any open recall. You can check your dryer by locating the model and serial number on the door frame or back panel and entering it on the LG support recall lookup tool or at cpsc.gov/Recalls, or by calling LG at 1-800-243-0000 for confirmation.
