Yes, there have been several class action lawsuits against LG appliances, most notably concerning refrigerators, washers, and dryers. The largest was the LG refrigerator linear compressor class action filed in New Jersey and California around 2019-2020, alleging that LG's linear inverter compressors in French door refrigerators from 2014 to 2019 were defective and failed prematurely within 2 to 4 years, causing complete cooling loss and food spoilage. LG settled that case by extending the compressor warranty to 5 years parts and labor and offering reimbursement for food loss and repairs. Another major class action was Bentley v. LG Electronics concerning LG top-load washers from 2010-2020 alleging excessive vibration, unbalanced load errors, and failure to clean properly. There were also class actions regarding LG front-load washer mold and odor issues and LG dryer heating element and fire risk issues for dryers made 2009-2013. More recently, there have been lawsuits about LG washer and dryer control board overheating. Most cases did not result in a full product recall but resulted in extended warranties, free repairs, reinforcement kits, and cash rebates for affected owners. LG has since redesigned compressors and washer suspension systems. You can check eligibility by searching your model and serial number on lgsettlement.com or saferproducts.gov.
