My keyless door lock battery is dead what should I do depends on lock type, but there are emergency ways to regain entry. Most smart locks have low battery warning weeks before death with beeps and app alerts, but if fully dead, try these steps. First, many smart locks have emergency power option, hold 9 volt battery to bottom terminals under lock to provide temporary power to enter code, this works for Kwikset, Schlage, Yale, and many others, look for two metal contacts on bottom of exterior keypad. Second, use physical backup key if your smart lock has keyway, most smart deadbolts include traditional key override, keep key in car or with neighbor. Third, use alternative entry method if supported, such as USB C emergency power port on newer Yale locks where you can plug power bank for 30 seconds to unlock. Fourth, if lock is August retrofit, you can still use original key. Fifth, if completely locked out and no backup, you may need to replace batteries from outside if battery compartment is accessible, or call locksmith. To prevent, replace batteries annually with lithium AA batteries which last longer, enable low battery alerts in app, and keep 9 volt battery in car for emergency.
