Do smart locks work without WiFi, yes, most smart locks still work without WiFi for basic locking and unlocking, though remote features require WiFi or Bluetooth. Smart locks typically use Bluetooth for local communication with phone, so you can still lock and unlock with phone within Bluetooth range about 30 feet even without WiFi. Keypad models like Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, and Kwikset allow PIN code entry completely offline without WiFi, as code is stored locally in lock. Fingerprint models also work offline. What stops working without WiFi is remote access via app from away from home, voice assistant control, notifications, and integration with smart home automations that need cloud. Many smart locks also support Z-Wave or Zigbee that connects to hub which may have cellular backup. Battery powered locks do not need WiFi to operate motor, they use internal battery. So if internet goes down, you can still enter using code, fingerprint, or physical key, and auto lock still works. Remote unlocking for guests would not work until WiFi returns unless you use Bluetooth. Therefore smart locks are designed to fail safe for entry without WiFi, but you lose remote features.
