Pouring a concrete slab-on-grade foundation is almost always significantly cheaper and faster than constructing a traditional crawl space foundation. Slab foundations require less excavation labor, minimal framing lumber, fewer concrete foundation walls, and less specialized masonry work. However, while slabs have lower upfront installation costs, crawl spaces offer long-term financial advantages by making plumbing and electrical repairs much easier and less destructive.
