Pouring a concrete slab-on-grade foundation is almost always significantly cheaper and faster than constructing a traditional crawl space foundation. Slabs require far less excavation labor, minimal framing lumber, fewer concrete foundation walls, and less specialized masonry work. However, while slabs have lower upfront installation costs, crawl spaces offer long-term financial advantages by making plumbing, electrical repairs, and ductwork much easier and less destructive.
