Alkyd paint takes longer to cure than latex because it cures by oxidation, not just water evaporation. Dry to touch is 4 to 8 hours, dry to handle and recoat is 16 to 24 hours, but full cure to hard, durable, chemical resistant film takes 7 to 30 days depending on conditions. In ideal conditions of 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, 50 percent humidity, good ventilation, and thin coats, alkyd may be cured enough for light use in 7 days, but reaches full hardness and maximum durability in about 30 days. Thick coats, low temperature below 50 degrees, high humidity above 70 percent, and poor ventilation significantly extend cure time, causing tackiness for days or weeks. During curing, paint may feel dry but still soft and easily scratched, so avoid heavy cleaning or placing objects on surface for at least 7 days. For cabinets and trim, wait 7 days before heavy use. So alkyd paint cure time is 7 days for light use and up to 30 days for full cure, much longer than latex which cures in 30 days but is usable sooner. Ensure good airflow and warm temperature for faster cure.
