Eye care specialists strictly advise against swimming, bathing, or exposing Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) contact lenses to any body of water, including swimming pools, oceans, lakes, and tap water. Waterborne microorganisms and dangerous pathogens—most notably Acanthamoeba—can easily adhere to contact lenses, become trapped against the surface of the cornea, and cause severe, vision-threatening eye infections, microbial keratitis, or corneal ulcers. If you must swim, you should wear waterproof goggles or remove your RGP lenses beforehand.
