Yes, you can program some garage door openers without a Learn button using alternative methods like DIP switches, external receiver, or wall control, but most modern openers require Learn button. Older garage door openers from 1980s and 1990s use DIP switches, small switches inside remote and motor unit that must be set to same code, to program you set DIP switches in remote to match switches in motor unit, no Learn button needed. Some Genie and LiftMaster older models have external receiver that plugs into motor unit and has Learn button on receiver, not motor unit. Some Chamberlain and LiftMaster wall controls have Learn button on wall control, not motor unit, you can program using wall control Learn button. For Homelink in car, you can program Homelink without Learn button on some older openers by holding remote near Homelink buttons and following Homelink instructions. However, most modern openers from 2000s onward including Chamberlain, LiftMaster, Genie with Intellicode or Security+ rolling code require Learn button on motor unit to program remote, as rolling code changes each use for security. If your opener truly has no Learn button, check for Learn button under light cover, as many hide Learn button under light lens. Consult manual for your model number for programming without Learn button, as methods vary.
