If your garage door won't close even when you press the wall button, the most likely cause is a safety sensor issue, as sensors are designed to prevent closing when obstruction is detected, and even holding wall button may not override if wiring is faulty. Safety sensors are small boxes near bottom of tracks, one sending infrared beam and one receiving, with LEDs indicating status. When sensors are misaligned, dirty, have loose wiring, or are blocked by cobwebs or dirt, receiving sensor blinks and opener refuses to close, often blinking opener light 10 times. Clean lenses with soft cloth, align sensors facing each other until both LEDs solid, typically sending yellow and receiving green, and check wiring at sensors and opener unit for loose connections. Try holding wall button down continuously, as holding overrides sensors in many models and forces close, which confirms sensor issue if door closes while holding. Other causes include close travel limit set incorrectly causing door to reverse before floor, requiring adjustment of limit screw on opener. Door binding due to rollers off track, bent track, or broken spring can cause opener to reverse when closing due to force detection, so try closing manually after pulling emergency release; if door binds, spring or track issue. Manual lock on track engaged prevents closing. Opener logic board failure or RPM sensor failure also prevents closing. Check for lock mode engaged on wall console that disables operation, pressing lock button to unlock.
