Glidden is now owned by PPG Industries, Inc., which is a large American multinational paints and coatings company headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. PPG acquired the Glidden paint business in North America from AkzoNobel in 2012 for approximately 1.05 billion dollars, which included the Glidden brand, manufacturing plants, and distribution. Before that, Glidden was owned by AkzoNobel, a Dutch multinational, which had acquired it from Imperial Chemical Industries, ICI, which had bought Glidden in 1986. Glidden itself was founded in 1875 in Cleveland, Ohio, as Glidden Varnish Company. Today, PPG owns and operates Glidden as one of its architectural paint brands alongside PPG Paints, Olympic, Dulux in some markets, and Pittsburgh Paints. PPG Industries is publicly traded on New York Stock Exchange under ticker PPG and is not owned by Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, or Home Depot. Glidden paints are manufactured at PPG plants in the United States and sold at Home Depot, Walmart, and independent PPG Paints stores. So current owner is PPG Industries, Inc., an American company, not Canadian, and not AkzoNobel anymore, though AkzoNobel still owns Dulux in some countries outside US and Canada.
