Is Glidden high quality paint?

Glidden is considered a decent, budget-friendly paint that offers good value, but it is not generally classified as high quality premium paint in the same tier as Benjamin Moore Aura or Sherwin-Williams Emerald. Glidden is positioned by its owner PPG as an affordable, DIY-friendly brand suitable for large areas, rentals, and budget renovations. In independent tests by Consumer Reports and professional painters, Glidden Premium and Glidden One Coat score in the middle range, providing adequate coverage, often requiring two coats for best hide, decent washability, and low odor, but not as smooth application, stain resistance, or durability as premium paints costing 60 to 90 dollars per gallon. Glidden Diamond interior is its higher-end line within the brand, offering better scrub resistance and stain repellency. For walls with minor imperfections, Glidden provides acceptable hide and low splatter. Its ceiling paints are well regarded for low price. However, premium paints have richer pigments, better touch-up, and longer lasting finish. Many contractors consider Glidden good enough for garages, closets, rental properties, and quick flips, but recommend higher quality for living rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms where durability matters. At 25 to 45 dollars per gallon, Glidden offers strong value, and with proper primer and prep, it can look good, but it is mid-tier quality, not high quality luxury.
