Glidden paint is now made by PPG Industries, Inc., which is one of the largest paint and coatings manufacturers in the world, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. PPG acquired Glidden from AkzoNobel in 2013 as part of a 1.05 billion dollar deal for AkzoNobel's North American architectural paints business, which included Glidden, Flood, Liquid Nails, and other brands. Since then, PPG has manufactured Glidden paint in its plants across North America, using PPG formulations and quality control, while maintaining Glidden as a distinct value brand within its portfolio. PPG also makes other well-known brands like PPG Paints, Olympic, Pittsburgh Paints, and Dulux in some international markets. Before PPG, Glidden was owned by Imperial Chemical Industries and then AkzoNobel, and it has a long history dating back to 1875 when Francis Harrington Glidden founded Glidden Varnish Company in Cleveland, Ohio. Today, Glidden is produced in PPG factories alongside other PPG brands, and it is sold primarily at Home Depot, Walmart, and PPG Paints stores. While Behr is made by Masco and sold exclusively at Home Depot, Glidden is made by PPG and sold at multiple retailers, positioned as a budget-friendly line within PPG's offerings.
