Leviton does not have a parent brand, as Leviton Manufacturing Co., Inc. is an independent, privately held family-owned company, not a subsidiary of a larger corporation. Leviton was founded in 1906 by Isidor Leviton and his father-in-law Aaron Schiffman in Brooklyn, New York, and remains family owned and headquartered in Melville, New York, with over 115 years of history. Unlike many of its competitors such as Square D which is owned by Schneider Electric, Pass and Seymour which is owned by Legrand, and Cutler-Hammer which is owned by Eaton, Leviton has remained independent and is one of the few major electrical wiring device manufacturers that is still privately held and not part of a conglomerate. The company is owned by the Leviton family, with members of the family serving in executive and board roles. Because it is private, it does not have public shareholders or a corporate parent, and it designs, engineers, and manufactures its own products including Decora switches and outlets, Decora Smart smart switches, lighting controls, and commercial and industrial products in its own facilities in the US and Mexico. So Leviton itself is the parent company for its various product lines like Decora and Decora Smart, not a sub-brand of another company.
