Hotpoint has been bought and sold several times, and different companies own it in different regions. The original Hotpoint company, founded in 1911 in the US, was bought by General Electric in 1918 and became part of GE for nearly a century. In North America today, Hotpoint is still owned by GE Appliances, which was itself bought by Haier, the large Chinese appliance manufacturer, in 2016 for 5.6 billion dollars. So in the US and Canada, the ultimate owner is Haier. In Europe, the history is different. Hotpoint in the UK was owned by General Domestic Appliances, then by Indesit Company of Italy. In 2014, American giant Whirlpool Corporation bought Indesit for about 1 billion dollars, thereby acquiring the Hotpoint brand in Europe. More recently, in 2024, Whirlpool sold its European appliance business to a new joint venture called Beko Europe, which is 75 percent owned by Arcelik, the Turkish owner of Beko, and 25 percent by Whirlpool. As a result, European Hotpoint appliances are now managed by Beko Europe, though they still use Whirlpool-derived designs. So to summarize, Haier owns Hotpoint in North America, and Beko Europe, with Whirlpool as minority shareholder, manages Hotpoint in Europe.

Hotpoint was bought by Whirlpool Corporation in EMEA region, which is American company headquartered in Benton Harbor, Michigan, USA, that acquired Hotpoint brand in 2014 through purchase of Indesit Company, making Whirlpool owner of Hotpoint in Europe. Hotpoint was originally founded in 1911 in California, USA as Hotpoint Electric Heating Company, becoming American brand, but in Europe Hotpoint brand was owned by Indesit Company, Italian appliance maker based in Fabriano, Italy, which owned Hotpoint and Indesit brands. In 2014, Whirlpool Corporation acquired Indesit Company for about 1 billion euros, gaining Hotpoint and Indesit brands for European market, expanding Whirlpool presence in Europe to become largest appliance maker there, with factories in UK, Italy, and Poland. In North America, Hotpoint brand history is different, as Hotpoint was used by General Electric for builder-grade appliances, and GE Appliances was acquired by Haier Group in 2016 for 5.4 billion dollars, so GE Appliances owned by Haier now owns rights to Hotpoint brand in North America for some builder models, though focuses on GE, Profile, and Café brands. So Hotpoint was bought by Whirlpool Corporation in Europe in 2014, and in North America Hotpoint brand rights are with GE Appliances owned by Haier Group since 2016, with Whirlpool being primary owner in UK and Europe where brand is most active today.
